M4 and Al-Niyat nebula in H-alpha

Photo taken during several really good nights in July. These objects are about the lowest that I can take from my observatory, and I can image them by less than two hours each night.

Anyway, it was an experiment to see how this region, probably one of the most beautiful in the sky in full color,  looks like in narrow band. The framing was difficult, and I know it looks rather akward, but I wanted to include M4 and the nebula behind Al-Niyat (the brightest star in the field) in the same frame, and that is a bit tight with my field of view. But overall, I was satisfied with the result and tried also several hours of a new panel that would go, overlapped with this one, in the direction of Antares, but I did not see any relevant H-a signal, I just a featureless haze (perhaps) and certainly M4 and the other globular cluster in the area, NGC6144. Looks like the yellow nebula that surrounds Antares is rather a reflection one. So I have decided to leave it like this.

By the way, I learned that actually there are two "Al-Niyat" stars, sigma Scorpii and tau Scorpii. Looks like Al-Niyat means in arabic "the arteries" of the scorpion, so there are two stars that share this name.

Esta foto la hice durante varias noches en Julio, y está justo al límite de lo más al Sur que puedo hacer desde mi caseta, por lo que solo he podido sacar menos de dos horas por noche.

En todo caso, ha sido un experimento para ver qué pinta tiene en banda estrecha esta zona, que por otro lado es una de las más espectaculares del cielo en color habitual. El encuadre fue difícil y reconozco que queda raro, pero quería meter en el campo a M4 y la nebulosa que hay detrás de la estrella Al-Niyat (la más brillante del campo) y con el campo que tengo va un poco justo. En general estoy contento con lo que salió, por lo que de hecho he intentado otra foto, solapada con ésta, en dirección a Antares, pero en varias horas que hice no salíó nada de H-alfa relevante, sólo el otro cúmulo globular en la zona, NGC6144. Parece que la nebulosidad amarilla que envuelve a Antares es más bien de reflexión. Así que dejo esta foto como está.

Por cierto, me enteré que en realidad hay dos estrellas que comparten el nombre Al Niyat, que son sigma (la de la foto) y tau Scorpii. Al parecer, Al NIyat significa "las arterias" en árabe, refiriéndose a las del escorpión.
